Available each year with Winter Flowering bulbs and perennials from January till December
Winter Cheer Where to Plant - in clumps, in sunny mixed borders, amongst other low growing perennials and annuals, or in pots (2 bulbs/150mm pot). Prefer well drained soil to which a small amount of complete fertiliser, such as Bulbs Direct Organic Bulb Food, has been added. When to Plant - July to Nov, most ideal. How to Plant - with the top half of the bulb above the soil, 8-lOcm apart. Maintain soil moisture while actively growing. Topdress with complete fertiliser each summer. Fothergilli Major Flowering - Autumn flowering bulb, March to May. An excellent cut flower. Planting - June to September. Position - Plant in clumps, in an open sunny position. Make ideal pot plants (1 bulb/150mm pot or 3 bulbs/175mm pot). Soil - Prefer a well-drained soil to which a small amount of complete fertiliser, such as Trenton Cottage Organic Bulb Food has been added. Plant with the necks of the bulbs above the soil, 8-lOcm apart. Care - Keep moist while foliage is growing. Leave undisturbed for many years, as lifting bulbs reduces their flowering the first year. Topdress with compost during their dormant period and with complete fertiliser, such as Bulbs Direct Organic Bulb Food, when regrowth occurs. Nerine Alba Flowering - April or May, excellent cut flower. May take a full growing season to flower. Planting Dec. to Feb. most ideal but can be planted at anytime of the year. Position - Unlike other Nerines, Alba requires a relatively cool site, in semi-shade if it is to flower well, especially in warmer areas. Plant in clumps between other plants in shady borders or at base of deciduous trees. Foliage - Early in Autumn, bulbs produce glossy strap-like leaves just before the flowers appear. Leaves die down over Summer. Soil - Prefer a well drained soil. Dig Bulbs Direct 'Organic Bulb & Perennial Food' or compost and small amount of complete fertiliser into soil prior to planting. Plant with the neck of the bulb sticking out of the soil, l0an apart. Care - Water freely only while leaves and spikes are actively growing. Leave undisturbed for many years in garden or pots as they appear to flower best when overcrowded. Topdress with Bulbs Direct 'Organic Bulb & Perennial Food' or complete fertiliser each year, as new growth appears. Snail and slug baits required to protect leaves.
