Available each year with Summer Harvest bulbs and perennials from June till September

Plant in an open veggie plot, garden beds or in large pots near the kitchen so the leaves can be easily harvested and used as a garnish. The bulbs can be stored for long periods and used as a culinary onion.

Shallots will require well drained soil that has been enriched with a complete fertiliser before planting. Do not use animal manure. Plant any time between May and September in warmer areas, or August and September in cooler areas. Plant the bulbs pointy end up, just below the surface of the soil. Space the bulbs 15cm apart and maintain soil moisture while actively growing. Top dress the plants again will fertiliser in late spring. Each shallot bulb should produce leaves 20-25cm high and between 6 to 8 new bulbs in 1 season. Dig up the bulbs from  January to February when the leave turn yellow. Store the bulbs in a net type bag, hanging in a cool dry place, out of direct sunlight.
